While You Wait

Did you know that this account used to be an account about Christian relationships? I held on to the idea of being in a relationship for so long. I always prayed for a boyfriend, read articles on dating, and saved quotes on what a godly relationship was supposed to look like. While those things aren’t bad, I quickly fell into the mindset that “if I just read my bible more, if I just pray more, if I’m just a better Christian, THEN God will bring me someone.” And that’s just not true.

"...for the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11)." While God loves to give good gifts to those who obey Him, it’s our sanctification that He cares about more. Being single isn’t a curse, as Elisabeth Elliot so wisely said in her book “Quest for Love”, “If you are single today, the portion assigned to you today is singleness. It’s God’s gift. Singleness ought not to be viewed as a problem, nor marriage as a right. God in His wisdom and love grants either as a gift.”

So even singleness is a gift that God gives to us (looking back at Psalm 84:11). It’s a hard truth, especially to those who so deeply long to be in a relationship (not unlike myself). But as you’re waiting, remember the true Bridegroom who loves you unconditionally. While you’re waiting, be praying. Ask God to help lessen your desire for a relationship while you’re in this period of your life so that you can desire HIM more fully. Remember that He has what’s best in mind for you. He’s not keeping a relationship from you because He wants you to suffer, but rather because He wants you to see that you don’t need that relationship in order to be happy in Him. Give it time, trust, and lean into Christ. He will be your satisfaction, He will be your joy. Trust and wait.
